Dear , I trust this finds you well.
Now that Pesach is behind us, we're all doing our best to adapt to the new normal. As always, Myself, Ronny Kowadlo and Elwood Shule is here for you and if there's anything at all we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reach out. Sadly, this was a tragic week for all Victorians, particularly for the Victoria Police family, after the loss of the four Police officers who were killed while carrying out their everyday duty, in keeping us and our roads safe. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the families and colleagues of Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Josh Prestney.
This is a brutally sad reminder of the danger police face in the course of their service, every minute of every shift. We thank them and all Victoria Police members for their service and sacrifice.
In my capacity as Police Chaplain, I have spent quite a few hours in some of our local Police Stations since the tragedy, and I can tell you that the policing community is hurting really badly right now. I also know how overwhelmed and appreciative they are from the outpouring of love and support they are receiving from the general community.
If you know anyone in the job, I strongly encourage you to reach out to them. It’s OK if you don’t know what to say, just let them know you’re thinking of them. If you see a Police or PSO Officer in the street, a wave, smile or ‘thank you’ will go a long way.
If you would like to send a message of support to our local police members, a letter, photo or drawing, you’re welcome to send them to me via email, rabbishmuel@elwoodshule.org, and I’ll hand deliver them during my station visits this coming week. We begin the new Hebrew month of Iyar tomorrow. The acronym of the Hebrew spelling of Iyar is Ani Hashem Rofecha - I am G‑d your Healer. May the coming week and month be on of good health for us all. Wishing you and yours a Shabbat Shalom, Chodesh Tov and a pleasant and meaningful weekend. May we hear and share B'surot Tovot - only good news! |

May we soon see a time free from the horrors of war, in a world of peace and understanding for all. The Jewish ADF Chaplains have put together a wonderful resource of reflections and prayers. You can download it here. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning; We will remember them." Lest we forget. |
