(Image from our 2019 Sukkot BBQ - Shaking the Lulav whilst social distancing and in a bubble... Who would have thought!) So, Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur are behind us - definitely one for the history books! Our Pre and post Yom Kippur virtshule gatherings simply cannot be adequality summed up in words. Hundreds of our Elwood faithful came together on Zoom and Facebook as a warm and vibrant community. We gave each other strength, hope and a true sense of 'together-apart' through this difficult and surreal period. It was a moment in history we will all remember - Thank you Elwood! This will surely stand us all in good stead - For when we do return to our Shule, we will be stronger than ever! You can watch both the Kol Nidrei and the Final Shofar & L'chaim videos here. I encourage you to take a moment and share your Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur experiences, highlights or thoughts here. They will be collated in a digital format, so we can all look back and reflect on them in the future.
Now onto the joyous Festival of Sukkot! A beautiful time of the year! As we spend time out in the elements - in the embrace of the Sukkah.
Perhaps the lessons of the Sukkah are relevant now more than ever. Sukkot reminds us what it is that we really need to be happy. We leave the comfort of our home and sit in the most basic and flimsy of structures - to internalise the idea that it is not "things" that are the true source of joy - rather the way we use them and the people we share them with. Unfortunately this year we cannot have guests in the Shule Sukkah or in our personal Sukkah, but we can and should once again make the most of the family time and the personal experience. Sukkot also teaches us to maintain our faith, particularly during these uncertain times. Life is fragile, but as we sit in the Sukkah, we are reminded that ultimately Hashem is in control. Sukkot tells us, have faith, there is a plan, focus on what is important and be grateful for the blessings around you - Things will be ok. Here are some Sukkot resources to enhance your Yom Tov:
Please scroll through this email for our exciting upcoming Sukkot events! Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and a Chag Sukkot Sameach! |
