Hope you've had a good week! Here we are bracing ourselves for what will be a very different Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur. We won’t be singing the Elwood classics together, nor will we be witnessing hundreds of children gather around the Bima for the blowing of the Shofar. We will all miss the buzz and electricity in the air, that unique and unparalleled Elwood energy that elevates the room and all who are in it. It’s still difficult to fathom. But – Pandemic or no Pandemic, we are on the cusp of a New Year. A time to exhale the old and inhale the new. We must try and find the positive and to not only survive this High Holyday season, but to thrive through it. To enjoy it with our nearest and dearest and to make it as meaningful as possible. Creating special and unique memories.
To make your High Holyday experience that much easier, we have set up www.elwoodshule.org/HH. Here you’ll find everything Elwood Shule has to offer over the next few weeks - A HH schedule, events, videos, Yizkor text, Prayer guide and page numbers, and more... Please check it every so often, as more content will be added as we get closer to Yom Tov. (If you have any suggestions what else may be useful, please let me know!)
I am also a part of a group of Rabbis & Rebbetzins driving the Melbourne wide ‘Project High Holydays’ which launched this week on social media - Bringing a positive and uplifting Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur to you! The ‘Project High Holyday’ website www.phh.org.au, includes numerous communal activities, events and resources and will be updated frequently. Many are concerned how they will hear the Shofar on the 2nd day of RH (1st day is Shabbat, when we don't blow the Shofar). There is a massive team of volunteers, including myself, ready to blow the Shofar in designated outdoor locations across Melbourne, within the DHHS guidelines. In the coming days the PHH website will be updated and you'll be able to find the Shofar blowing closest to your home. You'll even be able to request a Shofar blower to come to your home and blow it outside the front door. Visit www.phh.org.au/shofaronroshhashanah for more information on this.
On the Shule front, our calendars are back from the printer and they look amazing! They're currently being packed and will be sent out in the coming days! Thank you again to our graphic designer, Elwood Shule member Tara Saltzman and to our printer, Elwood Shule members David & Nicky Kegen of CMYK Online. Wishing you and yours a Shabbat Shalom! Please scroll down, there's so much going on and I hope you will join us! ...and as always, stay safe, stay positive, stay active and productive! |

A lady opened her refrigerator and saw a rabbit sitting on one of the shelves. "What are you doing in there?" she asked. The rabbit replied: "This is a Westinghouse, isn't it?" To which the lady replied "Yes, it is." "Well," the rabbit said, "I'm westing." |
