I hope you've had a good week. Our family is still asking basking in the afterglow of Mendy's Bar Mitzvah, which was a beautiful and enjoyable celebration. It was a intimate Shabbat with immediate family, both in Shule and at our home. Mendy did so well in reading his Parsha and leading the Musaf service. He made us very proud! Shabbat lunch for 20 was delicious (thank you Rivki!) and very lively. Many L'Chaims and blessings were enjoyed! We sung and celebrated all afternoon, until the conclusion of Shabbat, at which time we made Havdalah (watch here). We're very grateful to have had this opportunity, as just a few hours later the restrictions for home guests went back to 5... Thank you again for the good wishes you've sent our way. We definitely felt the love and warmth of our community during this time, even though we couldn't celebrate together. On the Shule front, our daily evening services are going well, with everyone adhering to the safety measures in place. If you'd like to attend, please click here. We were looking forward to opening for Shabbat services with the anticipated easing of allowed numbers in Shule to 50. Unfortunately due to the spike in Covid19 cases, the permitted numbers remain capped at 20, we therefore have decided to remain closed at this time for Shabbat (besides for Simchas, of which we've had a number over the past few weeks). We will continue to monitor the situation and do what's best for the well-being of our community. We are committed to staying in touch with you during this time in any way we can and we thank you for your continued support and understanding. I will be away with the family next week for a much needed break. Please direct all Shule enquiries to Jack 9531 1547 or Ronny 0413 863 263. Lifecycle events listed below are for the next two weeks. Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom, a pleasant weekend and a happy and healthy week ahead, Rabbi Shmuel -- Apologies to those who did not receive last week's email, we experienced some technical difficulties. You can read it by clicking here - It includes my thoughts on holding onto joy and grief at the same time, photos of recent Simchas at our Shule and a Youtube link to the wonderful evening of song and inspiration Ronny and I were a part of. |

This week's AJN featured my participation in The Push-Up Challenge. Watch video here. During the month of May, four Rabbis participated in the Push-Up Challenge, furthering the mental health conversation. in 21 days we completed 3000+ push-ups representing the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia each year. There is a strong correlation between exercise and mental health which drives the motto of the Push-Up Challenge, 'Push for better together'. Together, we can make a real difference! Let’s continue take care of ourselves and each other. |

While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant, and resumed their trip. After about forty minutes of driving the woman realised she had left her glasses on the table. To add to the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to turn around, to return to the restaurant to retrieve her glasses. All the way back, the husband became the classic grouchy old man. He fussed and complained, and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive. The more he chided her, the more agitated he became. He just wouldn't let up for a single minute. To her relief, they finally arrived at the restaurant. As the woman got out of the car, and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, her husband yelled to her: “While you're in there, you might as well get my hat and the credit card.” |
